Demonic totems II : Deimà

.

Ancient petrified kauri wood and stone clay.

.

“We fear that our "pride" - our ideal identity - may break into pieces if we help the sufferer.”

Masks and death
Religion and hell
Dignity and shame.
Sacred and mundane.

We all carry...

As ordinary as death...
As common as a skull...

Our terrene demons

.

A totem, to conjure prehistoric and ancient pagan/naturalist ideas. With an intent to refocus, to create an opportunity to re-evaluate values, actions and priorities.
To reflect on what we spend our efforts to hide about ourselves, and what we judge in others.

In direct comparison with how we could use our time and energy.
Maybe creating much more authentic and beautiful worlds.

.

Human judgment often becomes an eventual projection of less value on others, in contrast to our own inflating sense of self-righteousness.
This sense of devaluing the different is the base of all dehumanising and oppression.
This justifies the diminishment of human dignity.
The removal of intrinsic value of the sentient being.
